May 2023 What’s on my plate? update

I don’t know if I’ve said this before but my hair is crazy long and like 2/3rds of it is in this giant knot. Been like this for at least half a year.

I’m kind of finding a corollary between unknotting my hair and figuring out what I want to do with my life and my business. It’s slow going but I’m picking up better and better methods. It’s been untangling little by little. (Pun intended!)

what I’m working on right now

Video courses

  • Killing it with Kana course – one set of characters left; these are hand drawn so they’re taking some time to clean up and get logged. Also, finding pictures for the vocabulary.

In-person physical Japanese classes in Chicago

  • Finding a venue. It’d be great to have a permanent place; then I can do online and face-to-face lessons on the same days. Also, I don’t need to lug things around with me.

Rewards program

The store rewards plugin I’ve been using doesn’t allow purchase with two different types of points. (Other than that, I love all the things I can do with it so far.) So, I’m trying to find a workaround.

The rest

  • Putting together new material for the こどものにほんご Japanese for Kids classes.
  • Organizing/cleaning up worksheets for Vocab Visualizer Vault.
  • Writing SOPs and offloading things to my Japanese Language and Culture Consultant. (I want to hire two but that’ll have to wait until I get things in order.)

what I finished in the last month

The rest

  • Scheduled Translation Tuesdays and Friday Finds into mid-June. I batched these because trying to do them the day of rarely works out for me.
  • Gave feedback on student worksheets.
  • Hired a Japanese Language and Culture Consultant.
  • Worked Anime Central as an interpreter. It’s been about 4 years and it was great seeing everyone again but my feet! I’ll write a separate post about this.

conclusions/final thoughts

May . . . I didn’t get a lot done.

Hiring someone doesn’t mean you can just give it to them usually. They have to know what you want done first because they just have at it.

Also, because my hair is in a knot, my head hurts. So, I’ve been spending more time trying to untangle it. Did you know that people are always losing several strands of hair? Well, that’s all caught up in the knot. I’ve just been pulling clumps out. My husband told me take pictures and I probably should have. It’s going to look so different once it’s finally untangled.
