about me
Art, coding and Japan have always been THE major loves throughout my life. When I couldn’t figure something out in one area, I’d jump to one of the others and often find my answer there. It’s taught me a lot about stepping back and looking at things in unconventional ways. (Although I just might be weird . . . I get told that a lot.)
I studied all three in college and got Bachelors in Graphic Design and East Asian Languages and Studies with a minor in Computer Science. Computer Science would’ve been my third Bachelors if I had finished that last year (it was my original major). Why I didn’t stick to it is a story for another time—yes, it has to do with Imposter Syndrome.
But guess what? I ended up working as a web designer/developer anyway. (And my bosses were completely amazed at what I could do.)
Then at night I’d go practice my Japanese and provide a community where others could also get better at Japanese.
And now it’s a total 180!
about the company
The Sam Exponential was created with the thought of helping people gain the ability to get to the answers they need, the courage to try and the capacity to be flexible. These were the things I forced myself to learn and it has changed the way I approach life so much.
I wanted to work at a place where I’m collaborating and not competing, where I’m not being micromanaged or timed, where the things I do have value, where people care but don’t take things personally. So, that’s what I’ve built.
While The Sam Exponential is currently a single-person company focused on teaching Japanese to beginners, I hope to grow the business enough that I can hire some staff soon. In the meantime, I’m going to share as much of my skills and knowledge as I can on my own with you.
